I didn’t think I liked rum cake until I tried it at Irie Mon Cafe. We’d finished our lunch of delicious jerk chicken for me and curry vegetables for my vegetarian friend Melissa, and she couldn’t resist the tasty, moist cake.
The authentic Jamaican restaurant’s menu includes dishes like brown stew oxtail, curry goat and steamed red snapper. If you’re hankering for a Jamaican breakfast, get your saltfish, plaintains, callaloo and ackee here.
Irie Mon isn’t fancy and you’ll have to search a bit to find it tucked inside the Macquarium Building on Peachtree Street, but it’s worth the effort.
