I wasn’t crazy for kale. Until I had the kale salad at The Optimist last week and my husband and I clashed forks over the last bits of crispy shallots and chorizo.
Tempted by the recommended fish and chips, which Ford Fry does so well at JCT Kitchen, we instead chose scallop and halibut entrees and happily shared both. I loved the open atmosphere of the former meat packaging plant, where the noise stayed at a tolerable level despite a full house. I’d return just for more sweet corn milk hushpuppies, served beignet-style with a heap of confectioners’ sugar.
