Juneteenth National Independence Day, dubbed Juneteenth for short, falls on June 19 to honor the end of enslavement in the United States. In Atlanta, there are many events scheduled to take place in celebration including two full weeks of free programming at the historic Oakland Cemetery beginning June 18 through June 30.
From walking tours that focus on the lives of African Americans that shaped history, to storytelling hours perfect for families with children, to a picnic in the park, there’s an option for everyone. Although free, many events do require advance registration.
