Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy of miscommunication at Alliance Theatre

by The 100 Companies

Called a buoyant comedy by critics, the play “English” is the story of four adults who are learning a new language to prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language with hopes for a better future. They have been told they must follow the rule in their classroom – English only.

The play, which won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is the opening production of the 2023/24 season on the Hertz Stage at the Alliance Theatre and runs through Sept. 17.

It was written by Iranian-American playwright Sanaz Toossi and directed by Iranian theatre and film director Shadi Ghaheri.
