At 87, Alex Katz still creates art, and attended a press preview with his wife, Ada, for Alex Katz, This is Now, at the High Museum of Art through September 6.
More than 60 of his works, including 15 of his monumental landscape paintings and several created in the last decade, are displayed publicly for the first time together, showcasing his much-imitated “unique and startling style,” as curator Michael Rooks referred to it in his remarks.
My favorites were his giant landscapes, which he urged us to view from a distance, and paintings of Ada, the subject of this painting.
