Queen Anne Style

by admin

Though this nostalgic and romantic style flourished in the late 19th century, its name comes from Queen Anne of Great Britain, who reigned from 1702 to 1714.

It was a reaction against the modern industrial age and sought to exhibit the beauty and craft of human hands. We might see parallels in our present age of technology. Queen Anne is most easily recognized in houses – larger entrance porches, towers and turrets, and a wealth of materials, color, textures and ornamental woodwork.

Visit Inman Park and the Wren’s Nest in West End for fine examples of this style from the 1880s.
