The historic beginnings of Atlanta’s longest-running publication

by The 100 Companies

It’s no secret that The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is an Atlanta staple for news. In fact, it’s the largest daily newspaper in the Southeast and has offered the community thoughtful and breaking news since two news outlets merged in 2001 – The Atlanta Constitution and The Atlanta Journal.

The Atlanta Constitution, first published in 1868, became rivals with The Atlanta Journal, created in 1883, and for years they both served Atlanta news separately, competing for readers and stories. Over a century later, the two finally became one to publish a daily newspaper that is now perhaps the most influential outlet in Georgia.
