Many recall hearing the tales of Brer Rabbit as children. In Atlanta, Brer Rabbit’s timeless legacy is preserved at The Wren’s Nest, home of author Joel Chandler Harris from 1881 to 1908.
Best known for his collection of Uncle Remus stories, written from the African-American oral tradition, Harris lived most of his life in Georgia and helped revolutionize literature.
In 1913, the home opened as a museum, and it’s now a national historic landmark. Open weekends 10AM-3PM, with storytelling at 1PM on Saturdays, it serves as an educational resource preserving Harris’s legacy and promoting the art of storytelling.
