Weekday afternoon destination TV for kids growing up in Atlanta in the 1960s meant one show on WSB-TV: Officer Don and The Popeye Show.
Unfortunately, even in this day of YouTube, these shows are still locked in a room somewhere at the station, though I did find one 26-second clip. Our shared experience included Bosco, Colonial Cream-Filled Cupcakes, interviews with hundreds of youngsters celebrating birthdays, cartoons and, of course, the ever-dreaded ooey-gooey bag.
If WSB will release these videos, we’ll be happy to promote it to more than 100,000 kids who appeared on it!

I WOULD love to see those shows. I went to see him when i was around 5. The biggest thrill of my life at the time!
I was on for my birthday in 1969. Sat on the front row and stated my name. This was so cool for being in 3rd grade. Back then wSB was channel 2, nbc.
One of the biggest thrills of my life was being on that show!
It would be really fun to see lots of clips from the show!
Wouldn’t it? I want to see the Ooey-Gooey game again!
The OOey-Gooey song is (or has bas been) on YouTube.
I’m scared to look at it – might get stuck in my head! Thanks for letting us know.
I was on Officer Don in 1961 or 62. Something major happened in the world and Pres. Kennedy came on TV to speak to the country and that cut the length of the show by half. I was so disappointed, but understood that it was important and now think it was Cuban missile crisis but not sure.
100%. It would be wonderful to see those archives. So many of us from Georgia, our friends and siblings, we’re all the show. I looked and looked and looked and see no sign of very many of them. Why can’t they put them out on YouTube? Or through the GA Archives – they would be wonderful memories for so many!
