Before you post your child’s photo for the “back-to-school” obligatory social media post, think twice. Scams and breaches have spiked over the years and perpetrators are using data from social media.

Lookout, a cybersecurity company, offers these tips to keep your information private and secure:

• Limit the information you share online. Never divulge any personal information.

• Check your privacy and account security settings. Customize controls for online accounts and devices. Never set your account to public and be careful with granting authorization to third-party apps.

• In choosing passwords, never use any personal information that could be found in your posts.
