Atlanta pausing streetcar service after Labor Day

by The 100 Companies

MARTA will temporarily suspend its Atlanta Streetcar service beginning Sept. 8, allowing completion of critical underground utility work and coordinated infrastructure upgrades along the streetcar route.

As part of the route construction, Georgia Power will repair a transmission line serving downtown and Grady Hospital, requiring excavation adjacent to the tracks. Sewer lines along Edgewood Avenue will also be replaced.

During the closure, expected to take three to four months, MARTA will deploy shuttle vans resembling streetcars along the 2.7‑mile Downtown Loop. The pause also offers a chance for MARTA to perform track maintenance, station refurbishments, signage updates and deep cleaning.
