Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center’s former athletic club is set to become a beacon of hope for Atlanta’s unhoused population. Mayor Andre Dickens revealed plans to repurpose a section of the campus into a temporary emergency shelter, offering vital wraparound services like housing and medical care. With a finite stay, individuals will receive support to transition into more permanent housing.
The initiative follows the refurbishment of the site by updating the electrical, HVAC, plumbing and security systems. This plan arrives with the upcoming clearing of homeless encampments in the city, offering a place to go for those affected.
