Have you recently received a lot of emails from companies notifying you of changes to their privacy policies? It’s because a European law — which includes the strictest data privacy rules ever written — the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) went into effect on May 25, 2018.
The GDPR impacts U.S. companies that have European customers. The law covers consent of data use and users’ rights to data management, like requests for deletion of their personal data. Failure to comply can result in massive fines. The goal is to force companies to use data responsibly. And that is a good thing.
