While transit-oriented development has been making waves in Atlanta for years, transit-oriented soccer is just now taking off. Thanks to a partnership between MARTA, Soccer in the Streets and Atlanta United, 10 MARTA stations could eventually be home to soccer fields through an innovative, inclusive project: Station Soccer.
The first of these fields, laid on top of Five Points Station, opened in late 2016. Five Points Station’s field is the world’s first soccer field inside a major urban transit station.
The program intends to host youth and adult matches, along with mentoring programs and workshops that promote employability.
