President Obama sent the first tweet from @POTUS in 2015. So what happens when incoming President Trump takes office? The White House has a plan for transitioning the first “social media president.”
@POTUS will be made available for President Trump and will retain its 11+ million followers, but start with no tweets on the timeline. @POTUS44, a newly created handle, will contain all of President Obama’s tweets. Other handles, like @WhiteHouse, @FLOTUS and @VP, will also transition in the same fashion.
This digital transition is unprecedented. I’m glad, though, that the digital history of the Obama administration will live on.
