As someone who sees hundreds of resumes each year, I’ve seen applications that would make anyone cringe. I’ve received a recommendation from someone’s mother and boudoir photographs attached.
To be considered as a viable candidate, have an efficient, concise resume with minimal fluff. Some rules of thumb include:
- No pictures, unprofessional fonts or “objectives.”
- Remove your GPA if it is below a 3.0.
- Take out that you’re proficient in Microsoft Word. It’s, hopefully, a given.
- As your experience grows, move your education further down.
- Most people only focus on the top 30 percent of the resume – so make it count!
