As we celebrate the founding of our country next week, I look forward to catching up on my favorite podcast, The Thomas Jefferson Hour.
When things go awry in our country, as they have recently with the Charleston massacre and the continuing gridlock in Washington, I find solace in the words and idealism of this founding father.
Jefferson, like any man – and much like America itself – continues to be a jumble of confounding and contradictory forces, yet his vision for what we could be when our best nature prevails is what I’ll choose to remember amidst the fireworks and fanfare.
