“We’re going to have to make some decisions that might put a pinch on some people,” new Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Meria Carstarphen says in our video.

“But it actually addresses the issue of equity. There are some really long-standing dark, deeply dark equity issues in this school district. Those issues are going to be tough,” she told a ballroom full of appreciative Odyssey program donors on Feb. 2.

She said students will be 30 times more engaged in school if they can say “the school builds on my strengths,” or has a teacher “who makes me hopeful about the future.”
