Home Business Expect the Unexpected

Expect the Unexpected

by Sally Schroder

The first email I saw on January 2nd contained the resignation of a colleague. It was hardly the start to the new year that I envisioned.

The resignation was unexpected, all the more for the opportunity we had recently crafted together that would increase his compensation significantly. Despite extensive conversation, I’m still not sure why he acted as he did, but we parted cordially and respectfully.

Pondering the cause of someone’s actions is a luxury managers don’t have. We have to respond to those actions quickly and thoughtfully for the good of the organization. We have to expect the unexpected.
