We listened Monday night to the Atlanta Press Club announce its Awards of Excellence and began to wonder why we were invited.
Yes, we were one of 40 finalists in 13 categories judged by Washington’s National Press Club, but as each successive journalist told of losing close friends in Syria, growing up in a trailer park with a single mom or covering firemen’s deaths in Arizona wildfires, we were a bit humbled.
When we realized we were surrounded by 200 of Atlanta’s finest storytellers, we began to ask if they’d share their stories here in coming months. They said yes.
