“I didn’t want to get a real job. I bought a pizza franchise thinking that would be the easy street.”
It was an expensive date for Belinda Skelton, well-known Neal Boortz radio producer and host of her own WSB-AM Saturday afternoon show.
When she graduated with a broadcasting degree, she opened a pizza store, working daily till 3 a.m. When guys asked her out, she’d respond, “‘What are you doing at 3:30 in the morning?’ Which scared a lot of them off.”
One guy accepted. The next day, she found her $20,000 operating capital stolen from her freezer. So she closed the store and worked her way up in radio, landing the WSB gig, where she’s been since.
