Used for burials since 1816, Utoy Cemetery is the oldest of only a few identifiable properties to have survived from the earliest days of European-American settlement in Fulton County.
The 3.5-acre cemetery lies behind what use to be Utoy Primitive Baptist Church, the oldest Baptist church in the county. During the Civil War, the church served as a field hospital for both Confederate and captured Union soldiers during the Battle of Utoy Creek.
Along with Confederate soldiers, soldiers of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Spanish-American War, World War II and Vietnam veterans, Atlanta’s first physician is buried on the grounds.
