Margaret Mitchell House & Museum

by

While writing her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell famously looked out a leaded glass window in her apartment on Peachtree Street.

Mitchell and her husband lived in the turn-of-the century building, then called Crescent Apartments, from 1925 to 1932. In 1985, what remained after years of abandonment and two fires was restored by a group of preservationists into today’s Margaret Mitchell House & Museum.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and run by Atlanta History Center, the house and museum is open to the public as a literary center, events venue and tourist attraction.
