2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV offers little spark

First off, what’s a PHEV? A plug-in electric hybrid is a hybrid that you can run on electric-only for the length of an average commute. When it’s out of juice, the gas engine kicks in, and it acts like a normal hybrid.

So how does the Mitsubishi stack up? While the Outlander PHEV offers an impressive 30 miles of electric-only range, it falls behind in most other respects. Ride quality is ho-hum, handling is mediocre, and the acceleration is abysmal.

Mitsubishi’s own Outlander Sport offers no electric motor, but better everything else, for half the price.
