Candler Park residents live alongside a unique neighbor: the beaver, whose incredible ability to alter landscape is second only to humans.
Since the beavers moved in a decade ago, many welcome the furry creatures. However, opponents want to eliminate them, saying they spill too much pond water onto the fairways.
This opens a bigger discussion: who determines the value of public spaces? Rather than banishing the beavers, let’s find a way to co-exist. A good planning and design solution can provide beautiful green spaces for Atlantans and a safe haven for wildlife, allowing additional flora and fauna to thrive.
