Panic in the Streets in Athens

by
Athens newspaper

Twenty years ago, Athens band Widespread Panic released its first ever live album titled “Light Fuse Get Away.” To promote it, the band announced a free outdoor concert in downtown Athens.

The band initially anticipated a turnout of roughly 20,000 fans. However, Widespread Panic did not expect the attendance numbers to be closer to 70,000, with some sources estimating the attendance number actually reached 100,000 fans.

The show is widely considered one of the largest, if not the largest, album release parties ever. The concert was filmed and released under the title of “Panic in the Streets.”
