Opened this month, SCAD FASH’s newest exhibit offers visitors a closer look at what we put on our feet.
“Shoes: Pleasure and Pain” explores the creativity and cultural significance of shoes throughout history, from ancient embellished Egyptian slippers to Christian Louboutin’s signature red-soled heels. The exhibit displays over 200 pairs of shoes, including platform boots worn by Elton John, Princess Diana’s shoe lasts and David Beckham’s soccer cleats.
The exhibit, which runs through August 13, is organized around five themes: “Transformation,” “Status,” “Seduction,” “Creation” and “Obsession.” A special interactive tactile display will also be available for visually impaired visitors.
