Atlanta’s National Black Arts Festival, one of the premier arts festivals of the African Diaspora, recently announced a five-year-long program that each year will allow attendees to see through the eyes of a different legendary artist in one of five disciplines: dance, theater, visual art, film or music. Each series will feature “the legend,” a mentor, a peer and a protégé.
The Spotlight Series kicks off July 25 with this year’s legend, musician Wynton Marsalis with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, “the finest big band in the world today.” Tickets start at $25. For more information, visit nbaf.org/2014-season/spotlight-series/.
