Chapter 7: Is That a Woman?

 1981

   Jake awoke, wiping the layer of sweat off his forehead. He thought the ringing was only in his dream. Then he heard the chirp again. He clumsily jumped over Fiona and grabbed the rotary princess phone on her bedside table, pulling it into the hallway.

   “Is this Jake?” Sugar said. “Did I wake you?” “What’s wrong,” Jake asked.

   “Nothing,” Sugar said. “Except, you haven’t finished my book yet. You said you would write it. You can’t move now.” “I will finish it,” Jake said.

   Fiona turned on the lamp. “Is that a woman?” Fiona asked, accusingly. “Who is that?”
