Spelman College received the largest single donation of $100 million in January, setting a record for the university, as well as for any other historically Black college and university in the country.
The contribution was gifted by Ronda Stryker, Spelman’s longest-serving Board of Trustees member and director of Stryker Corporation, and her husband William Johnston, chairman of investment banking firm Greenleaf Trust.
Spelman, a private women’s liberal arts school located in Atlanta, will use $75 million to fund scholarships for future students. The remaining amount will help with renovating dorms and developing academic programs focused on democracy and public policy.
