For the past few months, the need for airline pilots has hit a new high as a result of so many pilots taking buyout deals and early retirement packages during the COVID-19 surge. Additionally, the older workforce and the struggle to bring in new recruits due to training costs have caused increased demand. Locally, Delta is looking to hire pilots as much as anyone, and earlier this year even dropped its requirement for pilots to have a four-year degree.
With travel re-bounding, pilots currently on the job are overworked and exhausted, with many joining unions in asking for updated contracts.
