When most people talk about investing in a business, they are referring to the purchase of ownership shares (aka equity). That too is the case when it comes to investment crowdfunding, but there are alternatives.

Take for instance Austin, Texas-based Hops and Grain Brewing, which is raising up to $1 million to build a new brewing facility in nearby San Marcos. Instead of offering equity in their business, Hops and Grain will pay out 10% of the new brewery’s revenues until investors have made a 100% return.
