“My family never talked about Ireland. It was not something they were very proud of.”
To the priest opening the village church door in Castlegregory, Ireland, Dave Fitzgerald was just another American chasing his “Roots” after the famous book published. He was partly right. There may also have been a woman involved.
All Dave had was his grandfather’s name, birthdate and hometown. He found his cousin’s house and tells the rest (in our video that plays in your email window). He’s since been to Ireland 37 times and counts cousins Foundation,as best friends.
Today, Dave leads ad agency Fitzgerald+CO, chairs the Buckhead Coalition and Saint Patrick’s Day Foundation and holds two passports. One is Irish.
