Seats on the Bus

by admin

Jim Collins, author of “Good to Great,” created the analogy of manager as bus driver. It’s the manager’s job to get people in “the right seat on the bus.”

The job hardly ends there. Collins goes on to say that it also entails getting the right people on and the wrong people off the bus. Finally, the manager has to redefine “the right seat” as the organization grows and changes.

To paraphrase Mitt Romney, “organizations are people.” Success depends on how well the manager organizes those people, and they are depending on the manager to do that.
