Crowdfunding has been a saving grace for many struggling artists in need of funds to complete their creative projects, but Hollywood has also gotten in on the action, albeit to mixed success.
The Veronica Mars Movie project, a 2013 campaign that hoped to reunite the cast of an early 2000s TV show starring Kristen Bell, raised $2 million in just one day thanks to an engaged fan base and unique funder rewards.
While other celebrities have achieved similar crowdfunding success, former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl has raised just $19,000 of her $150,000 goal for her indie movie “Jenny’s Wedding.”
