“…I was going to be part of the Olympics.”

Doug Davidson had just started New South Construction when he drove past downtown toward the Atlanta airport early on September 18, 1990.

Finally his own boss, he thought about joining the crowds at Underground Atlanta in anticipation of hearing the news from Tokyo, announcing where the 1996 Olympics would be hosted.

He soon regretted driving straight to work, but later decided to be a part of the spirit by asking a competitor to bid on building an Olympic venue. They won and his firm has been partnering with competitors since, most recently launching a seven-year renovation of the Coca-Cola campus.
