You’d think Mitsubishi would be on the ropes as a carmaker. None of their models has scored above 2 out of 5 stars in Car and Driver, and they’ve discontinued their Lancer sedan this year after 44 years in production.
But Mitsubishi survives as crossover sales soar. Their moneymakers, the seven-seater Outlander and five-seater Outlander Sport, continue to pry buyers away from other Japanese automakers. Are they worth a look?
They lack the tech, beauty, and sedan-like driving dynamics of competing crossovers, but if you want something basic and cheap (under $20k), they’ll get the job done.
