An easily overlooked architectural gem can be found in historic West End: the Westview Abbey.

According to the cemetery’s website, the Abbey is one of the largest structures of its kind – a mausoleum containing space for over 11,000 entombments. It was built during the war years 1943-45 and is a magnificent example of medieval Romanesque style.

Romanesque architecture was the precursor to the Gothic style and is typified by the great monastic abbeys of Europe.

The Abbey contains a beautiful chapel adorned with 27 stained glass panels depicting the life and resurrection of Christ and a mural illustrating four parables.
