A frenulum (Latin for “little bridle”) is a small fold of tissue that secures or restricts the motion of a mobile organ of the body.
The human anatomy contains several of these; I leave it to your imagination where they all might be, but today we are discussing the Frenulum Linguae, which is the small cord of tissue that secures the tongue to the floor of the mouth.
This little string has to be just the correct length to allow the tongue enough mobility to help form sounds; if it’s too short, it causes the condition known as “tongue tied.”
