The anatomical snuffbox is the deep triangular depression that appears at the spot where the thumb and wrist meet when the thumb is fully extended. It is formed by a group of tendons and has a lot happening within its borders.
In addition to housing an artery, a vein and some nerve branches, this is the spot where the radius and scaphoid bones articulate to form the basis of the wrist joint.
It earned its name as a perfect serving tray for sniffing tobacco and snuff back before those things hurt people; we’re open to suggestions for a new one.
