When faced with the decision to choose between rice cakes or Oreos and saline or cocaine, rats picked the cookies and drugs, highlighting dangerous food additives.
However, other doctors challenged the ability to extrapolate animal research to humans in this case. These doctors said that food and drug addiction are not parallel because a drug user will get better once he stops using, but a heavy eater will eventually die if he stops eating.
