Last month, Canada passed new air-passenger-protection laws that compensate individuals whose flights have been canceled or delayed. Passengers whose flights are delayed by certain amounts of time, or canceled, will be entitled to as much as $1,000 Canadian but only if the flights are canceled or delayed by factors within an airline’s control.
In contrast, while some U.S. airlines offer compensation to passengers for missed flights, they’re not yet required by law to do so. Perhaps someday the laws will change. Until then, we will have to keep waiting in air terminals for hours on end.
