The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll was born in a two-room shack his daddy built for $180. Vernon couldn’t pay off the loan and they lost the house three years later.
You can visit the home in Tupelo, Mississippi, along with the tiny Assembly of God Church where Elvis first heard gospel music and made his singing debut. The Elvis Presley Birthplace also includes a Welcome Center with exhibits on the beloved singer. During our visit his childhood friend Guy Harris regaled us with stories of their childhood escapades. “Wherever you step around here, you’re walking where Elvis did.”
