Asphalt checks important to do before dog walks

Warmer temps outside can make a dog walk dangerous for your pet. Even if the air outside is pleasantly warm, your dog’s paws are at risk to get burnt; the ground can be much hotter than the air outside.

When going for a walk, be sure to check the asphalt to see if it’s too hot for your pet’s paws. You can do the “seven-second test” by holding the back of your hand on the ground for seven seconds.

If you aren’t able to keep your hand on the asphalt for seven seconds, it is too hot for your dog’s paws.
