Atlanta teens win August Wilson Monologue Competition

by The 100 Companies

Two local high schoolers recently used their voices to tackle current issues in True Colors Theatre’s 14th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition. Atlantans Taloria Merrick and Taylor Jackson went home as first and second place national finals winners, with $3,000 and $2,000 in scholarship money in-hand.

Since its inception in 2007, the competition has introduced a generation of high school students to the work of August Wilson, Black playwrights and the power of Black storytelling. Held virtually for the first time, 35 students nationwide competed in monologue presentations for a panel of esteemed judges.
