Atlanta is known for expressing gratitude for Black History year-round, but February is filled with extra special opportunities for celebrations. In 1976, President Gerald Ford was the first to officially recognize February as a month dedicated to honoring and celebrating the accomplishments and heroic contributions of Black Americans.
Atlanta continues this tradition in 2021 despite large gathering restrictions currently in place. There are many ways for adults and children to honor the sacrifices of ancestors, including the Atlanta from the Ashes: Downtown History Tour, Flowering Forest — a Tree Tribute, creative programs at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and much more.
