When the holidays roll around, count on stores blaring holiday music, peppermint mocha everything and, of course, online shopping. If you choose to cybershop this holiday season, be wary of scammers, including those on social media such as the “Secret Sister” gift exchange.

Here are a few tips to protect your sensitive information:

• Always shop trusted websites. If you buy from an unfamiliar company, check reviews and consumer complaints first.

• Never spend money while using public Wi-Fi.

• Purchase only from website addresses beginning with https://, noting a secure site.

• Check bank and credit card accounts regularly for suspicious activity.
