When Reading Rainbow went off the air in 2009 after nearly 30 years of programming, multiple generations of readers were saddened. No longer would their kids (or their kids’ kids) be introduced to the idea of reading for pleasure in such an affable way.
Five years later, Reading Rainbow’s long-time host LeVar Burton acquired the rights to the name and is planning to bring the program to the digital age.
Within 11 hours of posting his Kickstarter campaign and humorous video, Rainbow hit its initial $1 million goal.
