After a close win over the Patriots two weeks ago, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith was asked about his in-game scuffling with New England defender Aqib Talib, to which he responded “I don’t know, you gotta ask him because he didn’t finish the game. Ice up son, ice up.”
Some enterprising individual knew the phrase would go viral and quickly designed an “Ice Up Son” shirt on crowdfunding-for-shirts site Teespring.com, which handles the printing and shipping and gives shirt designers a cut of the profit. The campaign obliterated the initial 10-shirt goal, eventually earning the designer more than $20,000.
