Kimball House awarded $50,000 historic preservation grant

by The 100 Companies

Decatur’s Kimball House received a $50,000 grant from American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s program for small historic restaurants. The funding will help maintain and restore key features of the building, including original floors, woodwork and other period details.

Opened in 2013 inside a repurposed early-20th-century railroad depot, Kimball House blends innovative cuisine with historic charm. The grant ensures the restaurant can continue preserving its architectural heritage while serving the community. It also highlights the growing recognition of small historic restaurants as important cultural and culinary landmarks.
